Souls Rest

Combining rugged hip hop beats with smooth jazz melodies is the Souls Rest trademark and an emphasis on blending live musicianship with the traditional art of hip-hop sampling and scratching has resulted in an ever growing and diverse fan base. Solid, classic sounding beats are overlaid with the melodic subtleties of jazz piano and brass and this combines to create the unique Souls Rest sound. Souls Rest Website

Originally formed by A.son and DJ Philamonic in Liverpool, England in 2003, Souls Rest have been settling into Canadian life since 2008 and released the 'Two Minutes' EP in 2009, following that up with the full length album 'extra.ordinary.love' in 2011. At the start of 2012 Canadian rap sensation abide.n joined the SR family and the group then released their first album as a trio, 'Better Weapon' in 2012. The album received critical acclaim with the video single ‘Small Triumph’ receiving plays on Much Music and Aux TV. Souls Rest are currently working on a new album, scheduled for release in 2014 and are busy playing regular shows in Vancouver and the lower mainland.

"Expect organic jazz-oriented instrumentation and smooth melodies with a soulful vocal touch here and there. The intro track and “Soul Food” got us hooked right away. We’re loving it and while listening to Better Weapon we crave for more jazz-influenced hip hop releases." The Find Magazine 2012

“Armed with microphones and jazz tones... Souls Rest are making music quite unlike anything else.” Richmond Review 2012
